From Lakefront

Emerge Lakefront is a residential environment in Stockholm for people who want to grow, contribute and engage seriously with the future. People come from different fields and backgrounds – entrepreneurs, researchers, artists, educators, designers, facilitators and others working with social and cultural change.

As part of life at Lakefront, residents take part in a Ten-Week Introduction Programme. It was created by Emerge Institute to provide a shared foundation for reflection, inner development and meaningful participation in a rapidly changing world.

We are now opening this programme to a wider audience through Emerge Institute.

This is not a general introduction to Emerge Institute. It is the same Ten-Week Introduction Programme developed and used at Emerge Lakefront, adapted into a fully self-paced digital format so that anyone interested can work with the material wherever they are.

Ten weeks of inquiry and practice

The programme begins from a simple premise: the challenges facing us are not only technological, political, economic or ecological. They also concern how we understand the world, relate to one another, work together and act within complex systems.

Over ten weeks, the course invites you to explore these questions through short introductions, perspectives, practices and reflections.

The programme moves through the five dimensions of the Inner Development Goals – Being, Thinking, Relating, Collaborating and Acting – while placing them within a wider inquiry into personal development, societal transformation and our capacity to participate constructively in the future.

The ten weeks
01

Introduction – Why Inner Development?

Understanding the background to the programme and why inner development matters in a time of accelerating change.

02

Inner Shift for Outer Change

Exploring the relationship between personal development, collective capacity and societal transformation.

03

Being – Cultivating Our Inner Life

Attention, presence, self-awareness and our relationship with our own inner experience.

04

Thinking – Understanding Our Complex World

Perspectives, worldviews, systems thinking and learning to navigate complexity and uncertainty.

05

Relating – Caring for Others and the World

Empathy, connectedness and our relationships with other people, nature, past generations and generations yet to come.

06

Collaborating – Building Trust and Working Together

Moving beyond simple coordination towards deeper forms of cooperation, dialogue and co-creation.

07

Acting – Driving Sustainable Change

Agency, courage, leadership and acting effectively without assuming that we can control outcomes.

08

Integrating

Bringing the different dimensions together and exploring how they reinforce one another.

09

Calling

Asking what matters to you, what you feel called to contribute, and what might be yours to do.

10

Closing – From Programme to Practice

Integrating the journey and considering how these perspectives can become part of everyday life.

A starting point, rather than a complete map

The Ten-Week Programme does not attempt to provide a comprehensive theory of human development or social transformation. Nor does it prescribe one worldview, spiritual tradition or method.

It is an invitation to begin looking more deeply.

The programme brings together ideas and practices from developmental psychology, systems thinking, contemplative traditions, complexity science, leadership, philosophy and social change. Its purpose is to create a set of starting points from which further exploration can grow.

At Emerge Lakefront, these questions are explored in a living community where participants can reflect and practise together. The digital course cannot reproduce that environment. Instead, it gives you access to the core programme itself and allows you to engage with it at your own pace.

You can move through the course over ten consecutive weeks, as we do at Lakefront, or take more time when a particular theme deserves deeper reflection.

Who is it for?

The programme is intended for people who sense that responding intelligently to the challenges of our time requires more than acquiring new information or technical skills.

It may be particularly relevant if you are interested in inner development, systems change, sustainability, leadership, social entrepreneurship, cultural transformation or the emerging field of approaches sometimes described as metamodern, post-conventional or beyond-modern.

No previous knowledge is required.

What matters is curiosity and a willingness to examine both the world around you and the ways in which you participate in it.
